About John

Eclectic Thoughts reflects the on-going tumultuous and frenetic splashing of thoughts about my personal life, professional life, and the world I'm trying to survive in. As such, I expect some of the content to be mundane, but some content to be passionate, insensitive, and/or plaintive.

My professional life has centered around the application of Information Technology in business, especially government agencies and non-profits, and includes substantial experience in software development, technology modernization, technology governance, and cybersecurity. I've served as a developer, a technical lead, a solution architect, a chief engineer, and as project manager. In all my roles, one of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been mentoring and developing the capabilities of my team members.

I'm a gay male living in Washington, District of Columbia. I was born and grew up in Central Virginia near the cities of Charlottesville and Richmond. I attended the University of Virginia, School of Engineering and Applied Science where I earned a BS in Computer Science. I've also obtained a Masters in Business Administration from the New York University, Stern School of Business, and received my Doctorate of Science (D.Sc.) in Information Systems from Robert Morris University.

When I'm not playing with cool new technologies, you will find me road-tripping, hiking, wine making, gardening, potting, or remodeling my house.
